MISTER is a new, innovative public transportation system for cities, where small (car size), fully automatic, driverless vehicles (or Pods) travel independently suspended under an overhead network of light guideways, 5 to 10 m above street-level.
All rides are only on passenger demand, so there are no timetables and no predefined routes (like for taxis). Pods are usually waiting for passengers at many small stops along the network, in shopping centers, offices, hotels, hospitals, schools etc. Since there are more Pods than average daily demand for them, hence you almost never have to wait, except sometimes during rush hours. Only the Pods carrying passengers (and some empty ones being relocated by the computer system to fill the vacant slots at popular stops) are in motion. If there is no demand (e.g. late at night) then pods are all waiting at the stops, ready 24x7 to go wherever you want.
Pods are only for individual trips (you, families or friends going together - max 5pax per vehicle), therefore provide absolute personal safety. All Pods, stops and network vicinity are constantly monitored by cameras, therefore assuring your additional safety. Rides take place from any stop directly to your selected destination stop, without any break during the journey and with an average speed of some 50 km/h.
Stops are off-line (like petrol stations along motorways), therefore they do not obstruct the flow of traffic on the guideways. The ticket cost is that of a bus fare but you ride in luxury comfort in the aircon vehicle, with multimedia services and enjoying the city views.
Because the cost and time of MISTER development per kilometre of network is some 50 times lesser than metro, yet the passenger-kilometer capacity is only some 5 times lower, therefore overall performance of MISTER system is approx. 10X better than metro. At the same time operating expenses are several times lower than metro, buses or tramways. MISTER has a realistic carrying capacity of 6,000 “passengers per direction per hour” as compared to 3,000 for buses and tramways and 40,000 for metro. However the average speed of transportation is some 50 km/h as compared to 30 km/h for metro and 10-20 km.h for bus/trams.
As a result, MISTER is definitely suitable for the application in busy downtowns as heavy traffic city public transit system.
